Marvin Lopez Acevedo

Welcome to my website.

I am a first-generation Masters student in Physics and Earth & Environmental Sciences.

My  interests lie in planetary geology, the origins of natural systems, and in the use of mathematics & computer science to further geologic research.

I'm working towards my M.S. in Physics through the Fisk-Vanderbilt Master's-to-PhD Bridge Program (F-V Bridge). I earned my B.A. in Physics and Geosciences from Hamilton College in the Spring of 2023.  I intend to begin a PhD program by the Fall of 2026.

My (current) research is on the deep-Earth magmatic processes that formed Yosemite National Park in the Western United States. Since the Summer of 2024, I've been a member of the Gualda Lab at Vanderbilt's Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences (EES). Previously, I taught K-12 environmental science programs for the Rockaway Initiative for Sustainability and Equity (RISE) for a year before pursuing graduate studies.

I am grateful to be supported throughout my graduate studies by the F-V Bridge Program, Vanderbilt's EES department, and the American Physical Society's (APS). My undergraduate education was supported by New York State's Arthur O. Eve High Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) Scholarship and by Hamilton's Opportunity Programs (OP) Scholarship.
